President Yoon Visits Seocheon Special Market Affected by Large-Scale Fire
President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 23rd regarding the large fire at the Seocheon Special Market in Chungnam, "We will immediately review the possibility of declaring a special disaster area, and even if that is difficult, we will provide support equivalent to that."
On the same day, President Yoon visited the Seocheon Special Market in the afternoon, toured the fire site, and met with some merchants. He said, "I understand how deeply distressed you must be ahead of the holiday. We will provide support as quickly as possible so that you can resume your business immediately," according to a written briefing by Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office.
President Yoon instructed Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, who accompanied him, to "actively cooperate with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Seocheon County to provide immediate support for what is needed."
Upon arrival at the site, President Yoon first received a situation report from Kwon Hyuk-min, head of the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, together with Han Dong-hoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, who had arrived earlier. He expressed gratitude for the efforts of the firefighters who extinguished the fire without any casualties despite the coldest weather of the year.
President Yoon encouraged the firefighters, saying, "Looking at your attire, you resemble soldiers on a battlefield," and added, "You have worked hard through the night. Thank you for your efforts."
He also emphasized, "Your safety is important when extinguishing fires," and said, "We will fully support equipment and other needs for your safety. Please always keep safety in mind."
