Pyeongtaek City Abolishes 'Income Criteria' for High-Risk Pregnant Women Medical Expense Support

Hospitalization and Treatment Expenses Support Up to 3 Million Won

As local governments continue to introduce measures to encourage childbirth, Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province has also expanded its medical expense support for pregnant women.

On the 23rd, Pyeongtaek City announced that it will completely abolish the income criteria for the high-risk pregnant women medical expense support project starting this year.

The high-risk pregnant women medical expense support project provides up to 3 million KRW in costs to pregnant women who have been hospitalized and treated for 19 major high-risk pregnancy conditions such as preterm labor and cervical incompetence. Until last year, this support was selectively provided to households with an income below 180% of the median income, but the city has removed this criterion starting this year.

Earlier, in July of last year, Pyeongtaek City also abolished the income criterion of 'below 180% of the median income' for infertility treatment expense support projects.

Applications for the high-risk pregnant women medical expense support can be submitted within six months from the date of delivery at the Pyeongtaek, Anjung, or Songtan Public Health Centers.

A representative from the Pyeongtaek Public Health Center said, "We will continue to strengthen maternal and child health projects and carefully develop and manage policies to make Pyeongtaek a city where it is good to give birth and raise children."
