Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min announced on the 23rd that he will consider providing special treasury subsidies to support the recovery from the fire at Seocheon Specialty Market in Seocheon-gun, Chungnam.

At an emergency countermeasure meeting regarding the Seocheon Specialty Market fire held at the Government Complex Sejong that morning, Minister Lee said, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will cooperate with related agencies such as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the National Fire Agency to ensure that the recovery proceeds smoothly. We will consider providing special treasury subsidies for rapid recovery."

In particular, Minister Lee urged, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Chungnam Province, and Seocheon-gun should actively review support measures for small business owners," adding, "All related agencies must make every effort to swiftly manage the incident and support recovery to minimize the inconvenience of the affected merchants." He continued, "Strict control over the fire site must be maintained to prevent safety accidents, and since the cold wave continues, thorough management is necessary to prevent similar fires in other traditional markets nationwide." He emphasized, "Firefighting and police agencies should cooperate with related organizations to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire to prevent recurrence."

Meanwhile, according to the Chungnam Provincial Fire Headquarters, a large fire broke out at Seocheon Specialty Market in Seocheon-eup, Seocheon-gun, Chungnam, at around 11:08 p.m. the previous day, completely destroying 227 stores. The fire was fully extinguished after 9 hours with no casualties.
