On the 23rd, LG Uplus announced that it had produced one 'mobile phone battery charging vehicle' (hereinafter referred to as the battery charging vehicle) to support disaster relief activities.
The battery charging vehicle, converted from Hyundai Motor Company's Staria van, was created to carry out public support activities in disaster-affected areas such as earthquakes and floods. Approximately 60 million KRW was invested, including the purchase of the vehicle and charging equipment, as well as special vehicle modification costs.
It can simultaneously charge up to 68 mobile phone auxiliary batteries and is equipped with a mobile router used in subways (a device that connects different networks) to provide free Wi-Fi. Two portable TVs, 'LG StanbyMe Go,' are also loaded to allow real-time monitoring of disaster broadcasts.
A wireless printer is provided to enable emergency document printing on-site, and a 220V outlet is also available to use electrical devices other than mobile phone batteries.
LG Uplus has supported damage recovery by installing mobile phone battery charging stations and Wi-Fi zones at disaster sites such as the Miryang wildfire in June 2022, the Pohang typhoon in September of the same year, and the Hongseong wildfire in April last year. With the release of this battery charging vehicle, not only residents at relief sites but also firefighters, soldiers, and other recovery personnel will be able to use it.
LG Uplus will dispatch the battery charging vehicle to disaster relief sites nationwide to carry out public support activities. It will be exhibited at the Magok office in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, from the 29th to 30th to introduce it to employees and customers.
Lee Hong-ryeol, Head of ESG Promotion Office at LG Uplus, said, "We have prepared a battery charging vehicle that can provide practical help so that the emotional wounds of residents affected by disasters can heal quickly." He added, "As the 'top' telecommunications company providing national communication services, LG Uplus will continue to carry out various activities fulfilling its social responsibilities."
