'Artist Studio' Trademark Application
"Studio Business Preparation Completed"
Wider Planet announced on the 22nd that it has filed for a distribution business license and trademark registration for ‘Artist Studio.’ This distribution business license and trademark application signify Wider Planet's expansion from its existing fields of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) marketing platform development into the studio business, including content production, investment, and distribution, with its own branding.
On December 20th last year, actor and director Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo-sung became the largest shareholders of Wider Planet through a paid-in capital increase. About a month after the acquisition, administrative preparations for related businesses, including the distribution business license, were completed. First, Wider Planet has completed preparations for the distribution business through this license application. It plans to distribute works within the first half of the year and aims to distribute an additional 2 to 3 titles within the year. A company official explained, “Starting with the distribution business, we plan to expand our business areas to cover the entire content spectrum, including in-house production and investment in works.”
They also filed for the trademark of ‘Artist Studio.’ ‘Artist Studio,’ which gained recognition in the market by producing Netflix’s ‘The Silent Sea’ with Jung Woo-sung as a producer in 2021, the film ‘Hunt’ directed by Lee Jung-jae, and Genie TV’s original drama ‘Say I Love You,’ will now be used as a brand that unifies the content produced and distributed by Wider Planet. The company is also considering changing its corporate name at the upcoming regular shareholders' meeting.
With the start of the distribution business and license application, a new business model combining Wider Planet’s technological capabilities with content production and distribution is highly anticipated. Wider Planet possesses technology that tracks and analyzes de-identified data of 43 million people. It specializes in understanding which content users are interested in. By utilizing preference data, it can scientifically approach recommendations such as the timing of movie releases and suggesting actors suitable for specific genres and age groups. Additionally, it can expand into a business model that links commerce by identifying the interest levels of specific content users.
