Monitoring and Alerting Construction Structure Overturning with IoT Sensors
Ministry of the Interior and Safety Designates 'Disaster Safety New Technology'
Kolon Global announced on the 22nd that it will strengthen its safety management system through real-time overturning risk warning technology.
Kolon Global's "Smart Monitoring Technology Based on Intelligent Displacement Sensors Capable of Real-Time Overturning Risk Warning" uses lightweight Internet of Things (IoT) sensors equipped with intelligent algorithms to monitor the overturning risk of construction structures in real time and immediately deliver warnings to workers, managers, and citizens when a risk is detected.
This technology was jointly developed with KCT E&C, KCC Construction, and Jeil Engineering Comprehensive Architectural Office, and has been designated as a new disaster safety technology (No. 2023-24) by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
It expands and optimizes the existing disaster prevention technology, which was limited to natural disasters, into the social disaster domain. By utilizing intelligent algorithms, it blocks unnecessary false alarms caused by external factors such as strong winds or heavy equipment vibrations, preventing manpower waste and confusion.
Additionally, by applying the latest wireless communication technology, it offers excellent communication connection stability and enables remote inspection and maintenance through two-way data communication. The wireless scanning registration function allows for easy and fast installation. Kolon Global has prioritized applying this smart monitoring technology to sites such as the Konkuk University Entrance Station area youth housing, the National Assembly Boulevard underground road, and the upper park project, and plans to actively utilize it nationwide focusing on earth retaining walls and retaining walls.
A Kolon Global official stated, "As interest and demand for smart safety increase recently, we expect the application scope of smart monitoring technology to expand further," adding, "We will continue to advance the safety management system through ongoing research and development and technological convergence."
Meanwhile, Kolon Global is accelerating the digitalization of the construction industry based on proptech technologies such as BIM. In September last year, it announced plans to develop a BIM-based smart rebar construction management platform, the first of its kind among domestic construction companies, in collaboration with a domestic IT company specializing in BIM solutions. It is also establishing a system to record and manage construction processes on site through video using drones, and linking all site closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) to build an integrated safety and health control center at its Gwacheon headquarters, continuously striving to enhance the on-site safety management system.
