Observation Focused on Waterfowl Among Winter Migratory Birds Visiting Taehwagang River

Ulsan City is operating a winter migratory bird ecological observation site at the Taehwagang River.

On the 22nd, the Taehwagang Ecotourism Council (Chairman Go Young-jin) announced that from the 20th of last month until February 19th, they are running the "Winter Migratory Bird Ecological Observation Site" at the bird observation deck in the Jung-gu area.

The ecological observation site operates daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two natural environment interpreters are stationed on site to help visitors observe winter migratory birds using telescopes and provide information about the characteristics and ecology of the species.

Visitors also have time to come down from the deck and observe birds closer to the river. At the ecological observation site, one can observe species such as the Common Pochard, Eastern Spot-billed Duck, Water Rail, Tufted Duck, and Mallard, which are active near the reed-covered river wetlands.

On Hajungdo Island, resident birds such as the Grey Heron, Intermediate Egret, Little Egret, as well as freshwater Cormorants and Red-billed Gulls can be observed.

Visitors who upload their experience photos to SNS can also participate in making Taehwagang Winter Migratory Bird circular badges.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "Since being registered as an international migratory bird city, the number of natural environment interpreters has increased from 13 last year to 20 this year to promote ecotourism, including migratory bird travel bus tours and interpretation," adding, "We will create viewing environments so that citizens and tourists can properly learn about the migratory birds visiting Taehwagang."
