Annual Support Up to 120,000 KRW for Mobility-Vulnerable Seniors Aged 65 and Over
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) operates the ‘Senior Happiness Call Taxi’ project, which allows elderly residents who have difficulty moving when going out to use taxis with just a phone call.
This project is especially designed to support the mobility of seniors who are not familiar with mobile transportation service apps, helping them to conveniently engage in outdoor activities.
Previously, in October last year, the district signed a business agreement (MOU) for the ‘Senior Happiness Call Taxi’ project with the Individual Taxi Transport Association Yeongdong Branch and T-money, officially starting support for senior mobility services.
Seniors aged 65 or older in the area who are recipients of senior customized care services, home care benefits, or are under case management by the district are eligible to use the service.
Taxi fares are settled through the system by the district without on-site payment, and support is provided up to a maximum of 120,000 KRW per person annually.
Additionally, when seniors visit hospitals, government offices, etc., alone or with family and have difficulty moving, a ‘Companion Service’ linked with the Senior Happiness Call Center is provided.
To use the service, seniors can call the dedicated consultation desk, the ‘Senior Happiness Call Center,’ on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to make a prior taxi dispatch request.
For detailed information regarding call taxi use, inquiries can be made to the Senior Happiness Call Center.
The ‘Senior Happiness Call Center’ was established as a pledge of the 8th local government administration and opened in March last year as the first of its kind among Seoul’s autonomous districts, resolving seniors’ difficulties with just one phone call.
Through professional counselors, it delivers necessary welfare services to seniors in a one-stop manner across all areas including health, employment, and leisure.
In addition, when seniors request daily life services such as home repairs or replacement of old home appliances, the center visits directly to resolve their inconveniences.
According to a satisfaction survey conducted in the second half of last year, 94% of participants responded that they were ‘satisfied,’ and the project also received a prize in the population structure response category at the ‘2023 National Basic Local Government Manifesto Best Practice Competition.’
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “This call taxi project was launched to help seniors live conveniently in preparation for a super-aged society,” adding, “We will continue to develop various policies for seniors to enhance the level of Dongjak-style welfare.”
