Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will encourage voluntary learning groups among citizens this year and support 37 clubs with 1 million KRW each, totaling 37 million KRW, to promote a lifelong learning culture.
To this end, Seongnam City will accept applications for the "Lifelong Learning Club Support Project" from the 24th of this month until the 7th of next month.
Eligibility requires learning clubs of seven or more adults registered on Seongnam City's lifelong learning platform, "Baeumsup." However, clubs composed of policy-prioritized groups such as the elderly, low-income individuals, and persons with disabilities need only have four or more members. All clubs must hold regular learning meetings at least twice a month and continue for more than six months.
Clubs with profit motives for specific institutions, political or religious activity clubs, clubs registered with institutions, companies, organizations, or universities, and clubs where instructors receive a fixed fee and act as leaders or members are excluded from support.
Selected clubs will receive support funds (1 million KRW) to be used for expenses necessary for learning activities such as instructor fees, textbook costs, and material expenses.
Clubs wishing to receive support should submit their application forms, plans detailing activities, and member lists either in person to the Future Education Division on the 6th floor of Seongnam City Hall or via email to the responsible department (7293082@korea.kr) within the application period.
After document screening, Seongnam City will select supported clubs and notify them separately through the Seongnam City website in March.
Last year, Seongnam City supported a total of 28 million KRW to 31 lifelong learning clubs, including the Joy Saxophone Club and Mirinae Harmonica.
