Former People Power Party lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon, who served three terms in the National Assembly, announced on the 21st that she will run for the constituency of Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu Eul in Seoul.
On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and stated, "I will dedicate my political career to the brilliant revival of Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu Eul, the heart of the Republic of Korea."
She said, "Having walked the path of reformist conservatism, I want to contribute to the disappearance of factional politics obsessed with black-and-white logic and ideology, and to the establishment of politics based more on common sense and principles," adding, "I will restore parliamentary democracy, which has been lost due to overwhelming majority parties, and revive people’s livelihoods and national governance."
She emphasized, "For the revival of large traditional markets and small business owners, the economic expert Lee Hye-hoon is the answer," and added, "I will coordinate closely with Mayor Oh Se-hoon on urban recreation and redevelopment issues, and will vigorously secure the budget from the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
Regarding her candidacy, Lee mentioned the non-participation of former lawmaker Ji Sang-wook, who had served as the party’s district committee chairman.
After the press conference, she told reporters, "I heard that our party’s candidate spot was vacant due to Ji’s decision not to run, which was a direct trigger, but when I was preparing to run for Seoul mayor and studied all 25 districts of Seoul, Jung-gu was the most disappointing area," adding, "At that time, I thought that as an economic expert, I could solve the issues of this area, and this time I decided to take on the challenge thinking it might be an opportunity."
