Choe Tae-bok, former Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea, passed away at the age of 94, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 21st.
According to the agency, Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, visited Choe's funeral hall early that morning along with secretaries of the Party Central Committee to pay their respects.
The agency emphasized that Choe Tae-bok was a "loyal revolutionary soldier of the great leader Comrade Kim Il-sung and the great leader Comrade Kim Jong-il," and "a long-time political activist of our Party and state who made outstanding contributions to the cause of the Juche revolution."
Choe Tae-bok served as Chairman of the 10th to 13th Supreme People's Assembly from 1998 to 2019, making him the longest-serving person in this position in North Korea. In addition, he was active in education and diplomacy, holding several key posts such as Party Secretary for Education, Secretary in charge of International Affairs and Director of the International Department, and Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee.
He was last seen in 2022 when he was invited as an elder cadre to the regime's founding day (September 9) event.
