Osan-si 'Bright and Safe City Creation Project'
Improving Aesthetics with Landscape Lighting on Bridges and Apartment Complexes
At the Ecorium Observatory in Osan Malgeumteo Park, located at 52 Osancheon-ro, Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do, there is a unique landscape lighting system. The lighting changes color according to the concentration of fine dust. It serves as a fine dust traffic light.
Osan City began a pilot operation of the Ecorium Observatory on the 11th. The lighting installed on the circular structure of the observatory changes color based on fine dust information. Blue indicates 'Good', green means 'Moderate', yellow signifies 'Bad', and red represents 'Very Bad', allowing intuitive checking of fine dust conditions just like a regular traffic light.

The landscape lighting operates from sunset until 11 PM. Since the lighting is installed on the observatory, fine dust conditions can be checked not only from the surrounding walking trails but also from most locations in the southern Osan area, including the Gyeongbu Line railway and roads.
Lee Gwon-jae, mayor of Osan City, said, "I emphasize to the responsible officials that the landscape lighting should not only beautify the urban scenery but also serve a dual purpose by enhancing citizens' health and the city's safety environment."
Along with this, Osan City is undertaking various landscape lighting projects. Since the launch of the 8th municipal administration, the goal has been to create a "bright and safe urban environment" by installing landscape lighting on bridges and apartment complexes.
The city plans to install LED landscape lighting on five bridges over Osancheon?Geumodaegyo, Eungyedaegyo, Osandaegyo, Namchondaegyo, and Tapdongdaegyo?aiming for completion in the second half of this year. The landscape lighting on the bridges will indirectly illuminate the Osancheon walking trails to ensure citizen safety.
Previously, as part of the subsidy support project for apartment complexes, the city promoted the installation of landscape lighting in five apartment complexes within the jurisdiction. This year, through the review of the apartment complex subsidy committee, additional landscape lighting will be installed in 3 to 5 selected apartment complexes within the area.
