Bloomberg "Discussing Investment with G42 and SoftBank"
"Intel, TSMC, and Samsung as Potential Partners"
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT, is reportedly pushing forward with building a network for AI semiconductor production.
Bloomberg News reported on the 19th (local time), citing multiple sources, that recent discussions have taken place regarding network construction with AI company G42 in Abu Dhabi and Japan's SoftBank Group.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported in November last year that Altman traveled around the Middle East and other regions to raise billions of dollars in investment to establish an AI semiconductor company. It appears that CEO Altman plans to use these funds to build a network for AI semiconductor production.
Sources explained that Altman’s network-building project includes collaboration with global semiconductor manufacturers, and the factory network is expected to have a worldwide scope. The report added that Intel, Taiwan’s TSMC, and Samsung Electronics are also potential partners for OpenAI in this project.
The reason CEO Altman is directly involved in building this AI semiconductor production network is due to concerns that semiconductor supply may fall short as AI usage becomes widespread. Since the launch of ChatGPT, interest in AI has surged rapidly, increasing demand for AI computing power and processors, which has raised concerns about semiconductor shortages.
Constructing state-of-the-art AI semiconductor factories is expected to require hundreds of billions of dollars in investment and take several years to complete.
It is reported that CEO Altman discussed raising $8 billion to $10 billion (approximately 10.7 trillion to 13.4 trillion KRW) from G42 alone. He has explained this project to Microsoft (MS), a major shareholder of OpenAI, and sources said MS has shown interest as well.
