Opening of Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held the opening ceremony of the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center’ on the 19th and officially began its operation.

Located in Yongdu-dong, the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center’ is a facility established to provide one-stop support for smart clothing manufacturing equipment, product development, and online marketing. It was created after being selected in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ public project in December 2022 and undergoing remodeling construction.

The district plans to foster the fashion sewing industry through the operation of two fashion sewing support centers, including the ‘Dapsimni Fashion Sewing Support Center’ established in November 2018.

The center spans from the 3rd to the 7th floor of the building, with a total floor area of 704㎡. ▲The 3rd floor houses offices and clothing exhibition spaces, ▲the 4th floor is a shared cutting room equipped with smart automatic cutting machines, ▲the 5th and 6th floors are shared equipment rooms installed with special sewing machines, and ▲the 7th floor is designed as an education room for CAD training and a community space. Reflecting the demands of small manufacturers through meetings with the Fashion Sewing Association, the district has equipped the center with equipment such as welting machines and electronic buttonhole machines, which have high initial investment costs or are difficult for general small manufacturers to use, as well as smart sewing machines.

The center operates on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on public holidays. Temporary workers employed at the center support production for sewing companies in the shared cutting and equipment rooms. Companies wishing to use the facilities can make a reservation by phone and leave their fabrics, etc.

Centered around the center, the district plans to promote ▲support for production of small businesses through operation and management of shared facility equipment ▲strengthening education in garment sewing capabilities ▲support for management and technical consulting ▲collaboration support between designers and small sewing manufacturers and joint product development ▲and building a network of small manufacturers.

At the opening ceremony, attended by about 50 guests including Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, there was a progress report on the center’s establishment, congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a tour of the facilities.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Through the operation of the Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center, I hope the fashion sewing industry, which accounts for about 40% of our district’s manufacturing sector, will regain vitality. We will create an environment where small sewing manufacturers can take pride, communicate and build cooperative systems with the local Fashion Sewing Association, and spare no support to ensure the continuous growth of the sewing industry.”
