Former Minister of Culture and Tourism Kim Myung-gon, an actor in the film 'Seopyeonje' and a director, has been brought to trial on charges of sexual assault.

According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office recently indicted former Minister Kim without detention on charges of sexual assault. It is reported that around May 2014, while directing a musical, Kim allegedly made unwanted physical contact twice with a subordinate victim during a work-related conversation.


Former Minister Kim was active in various fields such as production, directing, and acting after passing through theater companies 'Sanghwang' and 'Yeonwoo Stage,' and founded the theater company 'Arirang' in 1986.


He wrote the screenplay and played the lead role 'Yubong' in 'Seopyeonje,' directed by Im Kwon-taek, and won the Best Actor award at the 1993 Blue Dragon Film Awards.


He later served as the director of the National Theater of Korea for six years starting in 2000, and was Minister of Culture and Tourism in 2006 during the Roh Moo-hyun administration.
