Charges Including Abduction for Sexual Assault and Quasi-Forced Sexual Assault
Oh Taeyang, former co-representative of the Future Party, who is accused of sexually assaulting a drunken woman, was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 19th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Byung-chul) sentenced Oh, who was detained and indicted on charges including sexual molestation and quasi-forced sexual assault, to two years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures, face a five-year employment ban at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities, and register his personal information.
The court stated, "Oh denies the crimes in this case and shows no remorse for the harm caused to the victim," adding, "He has not been forgiven by the victim and has made no efforts to restore the damage."
Oh is accused of taking a woman who was drunk and collapsed on the street to a nearby motel on the night of May 15, 2022, around 11 p.m., sexually assaulting her, and taking her wallet without returning it. Previously, the prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence for Oh, along with orders to disclose his personal information and restrict his employment.
Oh stated, "I will immediately appeal." He gained attention in 2001 for declaring conscientious objection to military service. In 2020, he ran for the Seoul Gwangjin District in the 21st general election, and in 2021, he ran for the Seoul mayoral by-election but was defeated.
