Gumi City Issues ... Seeking Solutions Together with the National Assembly and Local Councils

From the 18th for two days, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held a 'Meeting for Major Issue Proposals and National Budget Securing' at the city hall auditorium to proactively respond to securing the 2025 national budget, together with National Assembly members Gu Ja-geun and Kim Young-sik, provincial council members, city council members, and senior city officials.

This meeting was held twice over two days from the 18th to the 19th, divided by each National Assembly member, to specifically review the progress of major city policies and deeply discuss solutions. The focus was on local issues and new national budget projects for 2025.


They sought solutions mainly for urgent projects such as the establishment of an Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Components Complex, designation and operation of an Education Development Special Zone, designation of an Opportunity Development Special Zone, opening of the Gumi Saemaeul Central Market Night Market, promotion of the (tentative name) Park Chung-hee Presidential Memorial Park, construction of the Gumi-Gunwi highway and establishment of new interchanges (ICs).


Additionally, various agenda items were discussed focusing on projects well-suited to local conditions and with high impact, including the establishment of a Semiconductor Materials and Components Testing and Evaluation Center, construction of a defense semiconductor design and modular support platform, support project for establishing a secondary battery fostering hub center, the 2025 Gumi Asia Athletics Championships, and the creation of the Gumi Ecoland Forest Wood Healing Center.


Mayor Kim Jang-ho, who ushered in the era of a 2 trillion won budget in 2024, stated, “For large-scale national budget projects that serve as major resources for the region, cooperation and support at the level of the National Assembly and local councils are essential. Starting with this meeting, we will continuously establish a close communication system and actively work on the ground until the government budget for next year is finalized.”


Last year, Gumi secured a record-high national budget totaling 716.9 billion won, including 146.3 billion won in the SOC sector, 97.5 billion won in R&D, 58.4 billion won in culture, environment, and welfare, 10.5 billion won in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and 18 billion won in other areas.
