Arcade Expansion and Public Parking Lot Development Enhance Convenience and Accessibility
Improving Stalls Vulnerable to Hygiene and Safety, Ensuring Fresh and Unified Design
Upgrading Market Brand Value through Signboard Replacement Using Market BI
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced the completion of the ‘Sanggye Jungang Market Facility Modernization Project’ aimed at revitalizing the traditional market.
The district has actively supported the revitalization of traditional markets and the convenience of local residents, participating in related public projects to carry out the Sanggye Jungang Market Facility Modernization Project.
The main components of this project include ▲arcade expansion ▲creation of a public parking lot ▲manufacture and installation of sales stands ▲replacement of sculptural signboards.
Through the arcade expansion, the old and weather-affected lean-to roof (a roof installed on only one side) was replaced with an arched roof. As a result, visitors can now enjoy a comfortable market experience without being affected by weather changes such as rain or snow.
Parking facilities, one of the vulnerabilities of traditional markets, were also reinforced. A new parking lot with 21 spaces was established near the market, and an access road connecting the street to the parking lot was secured. This is expected to greatly alleviate the inconvenience for customers who found it burdensome to carry purchased goods and use public transportation.
Additionally, the sales stands, which previously gave a visually cluttered impression due to their inconsistency across stores, were completely replaced. Newly designed flat and stepped sales stands were installed in 53 stores, creating a clean market atmosphere while improving hygiene management and accident prevention efficiency for individual merchants.
Along with this, the district replaced the market entrance sculptural signboards, which were old and had low visibility. The new signboards feature a design utilizing the market’s unique BI, attracting the attention of passersby. These new sculptural signboards are expected to contribute to enhancing the market’s image and brand identity.
The district has carried out various projects to improve safety and convenience facilities at Sanggye Jungang Market. In 2020, a three-story customer support center was newly built, providing open restrooms, merchant training rooms, and cold storage. The following year, the old market pavement was renovated with a freshly designed stamped pavement.
Through the Sanggye Jungang Market Facility Modernization Project, which has been ongoing for several years, the district expects to restore vitality to the stagnant traditional market, making it a market that satisfies both customers and merchants.
The district will hold a completion ceremony for the Sanggye Jungang Market Facility Modernization Project at 3 p.m. on the 22nd at the market’s back gate. The progress of the project and the improved market facilities will be introduced to residents.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Sanggye Jungang Market, along with Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market, represents our district’s traditional markets. We have carried out various projects to secure competitiveness,” adding, “We will continue to seek improvements to satisfy local residents who love the neighborhood commercial area and market merchants.”
