Strengthening Disaster Safety Response System with 24/7 Continuous Operation
On the 18th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam opened a Disaster Safety Situation Room at the City Hall Annex 1 to centrally manage the initial situations of social disasters such as natural disasters, fires, and crowd congestion accidents, and began full-scale operations.
The city determined that a dedicated response team was necessary to more systematically prevent and respond to unpredictable natural disasters and safety accidents. Since October last year, it has been working on establishing the Disaster Safety Situation Room by improving facilities and recruiting dedicated personnel.
As a result of this measure, since the 2nd of this month, the Changwon City Disaster Safety Situation Room has been operating 24/7, 365 days a year, with a four-person shift system, centralizing the initial response management of disaster situations.
The Disaster Situation Room monitors disaster situations for rapid reception, reporting, dissemination, and response. It also performs tasks such as operating disaster information systems (NDMS, disaster safety communication network, integrated platform, etc.) to identify and analyze major disaster information and make initial situation assessments.
Additionally, to enhance situation management and initial response capabilities during disasters, the city actively conducts regular scenario-based response drills using the disaster safety communication network and the National Disaster Information Management System in cooperation with Gyeongnam Provincial Office and related agencies (police, coast guard, fire department, etc.).
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “Protecting the safety and lives of citizens is the most important duty of public officials,” adding, “Since securing the golden time through initial response during disaster accidents is crucial, we will strengthen and establish a disaster response system that can protect citizens’ safety 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
