Agricultural and Marine Products Export Amount of 130 Million Dollars
Over 30 Items Including Yuja, Gim, Miyeok, and Dasima
Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the export value of agricultural and marine products in 2023 surpassed 100 million dollars for the first time among county-level units in Jeollanam-do.
The export value increased by 21.8% compared to the previous year, reaching 130 million dollars, accounting for 16.3% of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and marine product exports.
The county exported over 30 items including yuzu, gim (seaweed), miyeok (wakame), and dashima (kelp) to 41 countries worldwide, continuously expanding export markets and increasing export volume and product variety every year.
Export performance by major items increased compared to the previous year: yuzu ($45.34 million, up 4.9%), gim ($23.57 million, up 48.3%), and miyeok ($6.89 million, up 20.4%). By major export countries, exports showed an overall increase with China ($23.59 million, up 24%), Japan ($23.11 million, up 32.8%), the United States ($20.54 million, down 12%), and Russia ($15.12 million, up 130%).
The county, led directly by Governor Gong Young-min, formed an export pioneering team to promote Gohung agricultural and marine products in the United States, China, and Europe, resulting in a total of nine export agreements worth 55 million dollars.
Not stopping at export agreements, the county held a ‘Gohung Day’ event locally in Wenzhou, China, and pursued new product development such as yuzu beer, establishing new marketing strategies different from before to secure overseas export markets tailored to the characteristics of each country and product.
Recognizing these efforts, the county won the top prize, the ‘Grand Prize,’ at the ‘2023 Jeollanam-do Agricultural and Marine Food Export Excellence City and County Competition’ last December.
Governor Gong Young-min said, “This year, we will continue to pioneer export markets so that residents can focus solely on production without worrying about sales channels,” and added, “We are planning various overseas export marketing strategies targeting the European market in line with the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
