Is Advanced Engineering Technology in EV9 Seats?…Hyundai Transys Reveals Seat Expertise

As the electrification and software-defined vehicle (SDV) development of future mobility accelerate, the engineering technologies hidden throughout vehicles are gaining attention. Among them, vehicle seats are the parts that come into direct contact with drivers and passengers, making it easy to immediately feel the difference in technology.

According to Hyundai Transys on the 18th, Kia's flagship electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) EV9 is equipped with low-power carbon heating technology. This is a seat heating system using metal-coated carbon fiber. Carbon material is suitable for electric vehicles where energy efficiency is important because it can raise the temperature with low power consumption. Hyundai Transys reduced the power consumption of the heating system by more than 15% compared to previous models, improving energy efficiency, and also enhanced durability by more than twice.

Dynamic Body Care is a technology that reduces passenger fatigue during long-distance travel. It is a massage seat that disperses body pressure and combines impact and vibration to provide appropriate stimulation to the passenger's body. In particular, the relaxation seat installed in the second row of the EV9 maximizes comfort with personalized features such as one-touch relax mode and adjustable leg and armrests.

Tilting Walk-in is a technology that separates the lower rail and seat of the second-row seats. The second-row seat tilts forward while maintaining the backrest angle. This means there is no need to fold and unfold the second-row seat to access the third row. It also provides enough space to enter the third row even with a child car seat installed.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Transys is also focusing on developing customized seats for the future mobility era. The seats supplied by Hyundai Transys, applying advanced engineering technologies, were installed in Hyundai Motor Company and Kia’s future mobility vehicles unveiled at CES 2024, the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition.

Kia’s purpose-built mobility (PBV) PV5 seats feature the 'flip function' for the first time. This function allows the seat backrest to be folded forward and backward to maximize user space convenience. A sliding function was added to minimize the seat volume and enhance space utilization.

Additionally, Hyundai Transys participated in the seat development of Hyundai Motor Company's personal mobility DICE. The DICE seat is equipped with new technologies such as a semi-recline function (allowing the user to lean back halfway), massage function, and a control panel on the armrest that enables mobility movement, enhancing driver convenience.
