Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Forms 'Consultative Body' to Ease Regulations on Private Academies and Strives for Progress

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education continues its efforts to ease regulations related to private academies.

On the 18th, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that it will form and continuously operate the '2024 Private Academy Facility Standards Improvement Council.'

Through the operation of this council, the necessity and practical suitability of easing standards for large-scale facilities such as GED academies and reading rooms, compared to other cities and provinces, will be continuously reviewed.

Discussions will also be held on related regulations that need revision, such as simplifying civil complaint services.

Furthermore, beyond easing regulations on private academy facility standards, tasks to improve civil complaint services will be actively identified to enhance public services, including ▲collaboration with other institutions ▲online civil complaint processing via the website ▲measures to reduce private education expenses.

Last year, the Office of Education amended the 'Ordinance on the Establishment, Operation, and Private Tutoring of Private Academies in Gwangju Metropolitan City,' easing the facility size standard for foreign language academies from 140㎡ or more to 90㎡ or more, which has been in effect since January 1 of this year.

Superintendent Lee Jeong-seon stated, “Through the council, we aim to continuously review the easing of regulations related to private academies to promote coexistence between public and private education and to foster the soundness of the private education market.”
