Professors Hanlim Lee and Wookgyo Jung of National Pukyong University Deliver UN Invited Special Lecture in Thailand

UN ESCAP·UNDP-led Education Program

Two professors from the National Pukyong National University were invited by the UN to speak in Thailand.


On the 18th, National Pukyong National University announced that Professor Hanlim Lee and Professor Wookgyo Jung from the Department of Earth Environmental System Science, Satellite Information Fusion Engineering major, were invited as lecturers for the ‘GEMS Capacity Building Training Program’ held recently at the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) Education Center in Bangkok, Thailand, hosted by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).


This program was jointly organized by UN ESCAP and Thailand’s GISTDA, with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the National Institute of Environmental Research, to enhance the capabilities of personnel such as government officials from space and environmental agencies across Asia in monitoring and managing air pollution using the environmental satellite (GEMS).

Professor Hanlim Lee introduced the spectral analysis technology of NASA’s Pandora, a ground remote sensing instrument used for validating environmental satellite products, during his special lectures on the 9th and 10th.


Professor Wookgyo Jung gave lectures on the 11th and 12th focusing on the importance of Pandora products in air quality observation, validation of geostationary environmental satellite data on fine dust and pollutant gases using ground remote sensing instruments, and the establishment of an Asian air quality ground observation network.


Additionally, on the 11th, Professor Hanlim Lee was invited as a speaker at the ‘2024 CABSA AAQMaP Workshop in Thailand’ hosted by UNDP at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, where he delivered a special lecture on ‘Development of the Asia Air Quality Management Program (AAQMaP) and Clean Air Model for Blue Sky Asia (CABSA).’
