This contest was organized to discover the potential unique to the College of Human Resources students by fostering entrepreneurial spirit and problem-solving skills for startups.

‘Munsong’ No More... National Pukyong University, Unique Startup Ideas from Humanities and Social Sciences Students An award ceremony for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Startup Action Plan Contest is being held at the National Pukyong University.

Participants from the humanities and social sciences presented award-winning works full of a ‘human touch.’ The grand prize winner, student Kim Seo-hyun (majoring in Japanese Studies), developed a startup item called ‘Dentissue,’ an oral hygiene tissue made from corn byproducts.

This item is a disposable oral hygiene tissue containing corn extract. It physically removes food residue and dental plaque using the friction of corn husks, and utilizes xylitol and components from corn stalks to inhibit the growth of cavity-causing bacteria and prevent oral inflammation.

Kim Seo-hyun said, “While volunteering to assist meals at a senior welfare center, I wondered if there was a way for the elderly to manage their teeth with minimal effort, which led me to develop Dentissue.”

Having already engaged in various educational and entrepreneurial activities through a startup club, Kim has not only developed the item but also completed a patent application and is actively preparing for the startup by negotiating directly with a corn farm to secure raw materials.

Additionally, the team of Choi Min-seok and Kim Jun-seung, majoring in Public Administration, received an excellence award for ‘LOCUS,’ a one-stop solution for booking, payment, and travel course creation using an online travel review database.

They have been developing the business model since last year in collaboration with current developers and designers, registering the business, and gaining attention by being selected as a preliminary tourism venture by the Korea Tourism Organization as well as a Busan tourism company.

Another excellence award-winning team, Yoon Seok-hwan and Jung Jin-hoon, majoring in Social Welfare, proposed ‘SAW,’ a platform for purchasing and renting student artworks from the College of Fine Arts, receiving favorable evaluations. Ideas such as a foreigner-exclusive gourmet restaurant application (Kim Se-ung and Lee Ho-jun), a foreigner homestay matching platform (Park Ki-yeol, Baek Seo-rin, Jung Yeon-bin), and a distribution business to revitalize imperfect agricultural products (Park Yoo-shin) won encouragement awards.
