The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 18th that it has published a revised edition of the press reference booklet containing guidelines to be observed in media reporting to prevent secondary damage from incidents such as sexual harassment, sexual violence, and stalking, in collaboration with the Korea Journalists Association.
This booklet is a revision of the 2022 edition, supplemented with guidelines on new types of crimes such as stalking and dating violence, and produced in a booklet format. The Korean Women Lawyers Association was responsible for supplementation and writing, and consulted experts from the media industry and victim support fields.
In addition to sexual harassment and sexual violence, concepts, reporting cases, and precautions regarding stalking, dating violence, and domestic violence were added, along with supplementary cases of corrective recommendations from the Press Arbitration Commission related to incidents and court precedents.
Specifically, it includes the necessity to guarantee the privacy and freedom of victims, and principles to be observed during interviews with victims and related parties.
This booklet can be downloaded in e-book format from the websites of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Journalists Association.
Minister Kim Hyun-sook stated, "Preventing secondary damage is crucial for the swift recovery of victims of violence such as sexual harassment, sexual violence, and stalking," and added, "We will work together with the Korea Journalists Association to ensure that the principle of protecting victims is upheld during media reporting processes to prevent secondary harm."
Park Jong-hyun, President of the Korea Journalists Association, said, "We expect this to help prevent secondary damage that can occur due to carelessness and also support victims' efforts to restore their daily lives."
