Operation of 'Jungnang-gu Unmanned Recycling Collection Machine'

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is taking the lead in promoting a resource circulation culture through the operation of unmanned recycling collection machines.

The unmanned recycling collection machines are devices that reward points for recycling items such as paper packs, cans, and PET bottles. To recycle paper packs, cans, and transparent PET bottles, thorough separation is necessary, but often they are mixed with general waste, making recycling difficult.

Accordingly, since 2019, the district has installed and operated unmanned collection machines at community centers and apartment complexes to increase the recovery rate of recyclable resources and encourage residents to actively participate in resource circulation activities.

So far, the amount of cans and PET bottles collected through the unmanned collection machines has reached approximately 190,691 kg, reflecting high resident participation.

In Jungnang-gu, there are a total of 45 unmanned collection machines, including 38 paper pack machines, 2 can and PET bottle machines, and 5 recently added machines exclusively for transparent PET bottles. Anyone in the community can use them, and 10 points are accumulated per recyclable item.

To use the paper pack unmanned collection machines, users must download and register on the ‘Oneul-ui Bunrisugeo (Today’s Recycling)’ app. Accumulated points can be exchanged for rewards such as milk.

The can and (transparent) PET bottle unmanned collection machines can be used via the ‘Superbin’ app. Each can and PET bottle earns 10 points, and points can be converted to cash starting from 2,000 points. The daily disposal limit per person is up to 20 items.

Detailed locations of the unmanned collection machines can be found on the Jungnang-gu website’s district news bulletin board.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “I hope residents actively use the unmanned recycling collection machines installed throughout the district to protect the environment, accumulate points, and enjoy small pleasures in daily life. We will continue to strive to develop various resource circulation policies that residents can participate in together.”
