Real-time Interpretation Without Internet... Samsung Unveils 'First AI Phone' Galaxy S24

Samsung Electronics unveiled the ‘Galaxy S24’ series equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as real-time translation and automatic image search on the 17th (local time). This marks the beginning of the full-fledged AI phone era.

On the same day, Samsung Electronics held 'Galaxy Unpacked 2024' at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, and introduced the Galaxy S24 series. It is the world’s first AI phone equipped with Samsung’s self-developed Galaxy AI. Tae-moon Roh, President of Samsung Electronics’ MX Division, said, "The Galaxy S24 series will open a new era of mobile AI phones," adding, "Galaxy AI will change the way users experience the world and support them in unleashing infinite potential."

The S24 series is characterized by on-device AI, allowing functions such as real-time translation and automatic image search without an internet connection. First, real-time translation supports 13 languages including Korean and English. The ‘Note Assist’ feature, which summarizes and organizes texts or memos written in ‘Samsung Notes’ and converts them into meeting minutes format, is also included. When recording meetings with the pre-installed ‘Voice Recorder’ app, Speech-to-text (STT) technology provides scripts for up to 10 speakers separately.

Camera performance has also been upgraded. The high-end Ultra model now offers optical-level high resolution not only at 3x and 10x zoom but also at 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x zoom. Additionally, the Ultra model applies new glass called ‘Coin Glass,’ which reduces light reflectance by up to 75% compared to regular glass, uses titanium materials, and is equipped with the ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’ chipset. The base S24 model is based on the ‘Exynos 2400’ chipset.

Samsung Electronics will sequentially release the S24 series worldwide, including South Korea, starting from the 31st. Pre-orders in South Korea will be held from the 19th to the 25th. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ start at 1,155,000 KRW and 1,353,000 KRW respectively, the same as their predecessors, while the Ultra model starts at 1,698,400 KRW, about 100,000 KRW higher.
