Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) held the '2024 New Year's Greeting Meeting' at 11 a.m. on the 17th in the Grand Theater on the 3rd floor of the Seodaemun Culture and Sports Center. This year, the event received even greater positive responses from attendees due to a new format that broke away from the fixed style.

Until last year, the New Year's Greeting Meeting was held in a standing format at the large auditorium on the 6th floor of the district office, but due to limited space, this year it was moved to a venue more than twice as large with seating installed to enhance residents' convenience.

On this day, Kim Hyeong-seok, a 104-year-old honorary professor at Yonsei University and a resident of Seodaemun-gu, attended the event. Professor Kim gave a congratulatory message, saying, “I hope this new year will be a year in which everyone learns, cultivates character, and creates happiness by loving someone,” which received much applause.

Following this, Mayor Lee Seong-heon presented flowers to Professor Kim, Chairman Lee Dong-hwa of the Seodaemun District Council gave flowers to Son Seong-in, president of the Korean Senior Citizens Association Seodaemun Branch, and 14 neighborhood chiefs each offered flowers and greetings to the elderly in their respective areas with respect and love.

Additionally, two fathers who had children this year were invited, and the mayor presented congratulatory bouquets and gifted strollers sponsored by the Seodaemun Childcare Support Center and Seodaemun Family Center, reaffirming the city’s commitment to supporting childbirth.

Moreover, a concise video titled ‘2023 Seodaemun-gu Hot Issues’ was screened to increase residents’ interest and understanding of district administration. On this day, Mayor Lee Seong-heon of Seodaemun-gu began his New Year's address by sharing a heartwarming story about an elderly woman in Bukgajwa-dong who has been running a tteokbokki restaurant and donating to neighbors in need for three years, which resonated with the audience.

He then shared the 2024 district administration vision with residents, including the revitalization of the Hongje district transit-oriented area, resident-friendly maintenance projects, the undergrounding of the Gyeongui Line and creation of the New University Road, strengthening neighborhood networks centered on community leaders, prevention of solitary deaths and elimination of welfare blind spots, creation of urban healing spots, and making Caf? Pokpo a global attraction.

Mayor Lee Seong-heon stated, “We will continue the changes and innovations achieved last year and do our best to make Seodaemun-gu a place of 100% happiness in the new year.”
