Kim Kyung-yul's Nomination for Mapo-eul Candidacy Must Follow the Party Committee Rules

Han Dong-hoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for his statement after returning to party affairs following an attack, saying, "Trying to kill by law, by pen, and then by knife, but never dying," calling it "delusional."

At a meeting with reporters after lunch with senior lawmakers of the 4th and 5th terms on the 17th, Chairman Han questioned, "Who is trying to kill by knife?" and asked, "Me? Our People Power Party? Or are the people trying to kill?" He added, "It was just a very strange person committing a very bad crime," and said, "It is very unfortunate, but interpreting it politically in such an extreme way is not typical of Leader Lee Jae-myung."

Chairman Han expressed his intention to continue pushing for the incorporation of Gimpo into Seoul even after the general election. He also expressed that he does not oppose the division of Gyeonggi Province. He said, "Residents of Gyeonggi and the metropolitan area are very expanded," and explained, "The jurisdiction is very wide, and although Seoul is in the center, places in the north like Uijeongbu and places in the south are separated, yet those in the northern area have to come down to Seoul to use administrative procedures." He added, "Our position remains unchanged in actively considering the incorporation of cities wishing to be incorporated into Seoul." Furthermore, he said, "If the people of Gyeonggi want to divide Gyeonggi into north and south for more efficient administration, we do not oppose that either," and emphasized, "The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. If both aim to improve the quality of life for Gyeonggi residents, we will actively consider them."

Regarding criticism that reducing the number of National Assembly members to 250 is populism, he said, "I don't understand why that would fuel political hatred," and added, "I believe many people in Korea agree and sympathize with political reform." He also stated, "Political reform is not about politicians considering their own interests."

Regarding the People Power Party Seoul City Party New Year's meeting where Kim Kyung-yul, Emergency Response Committee member of the People Power Party, revealed his decision to run in Seoul Mapo-eul, where Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Cheong-rae is incumbent, Chairman Han said, "It was not intended to decide to send a specific person there," and added, "All nominations must follow the rules of the nomination committee." However, he acknowledged, "Mapo-eul is indeed a very difficult district," and said, "I think Kim, who can go anywhere, volunteering to fight symbolically there, gives great hope to our party and supporters, which is why I said that." He added, "It does not mean giving disadvantages to those (existing party branch chiefs)."
