Jeollabuk-do will be newly established as Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province on the 18th, and January 18th is a historic day that signals hope for Jeonbuk.

Accordingly, the county plans to prepare solid specialized strategies responding to special cases in various fields, such as the development of Okjeongho Lake area as a comprehensive tourist destination and activation of private investment, advancement of the Imsil cheese industry through the introduction of Jersey cattle, and fostering of the companion animal industry, and actively reflect them in county administration.

▲ The infinite transformation of Okjeongho begins, transforming into a premium ecological tourist destination

Based on the successful case of Bungeo Island in Okjeongho, the county is promoting the Okjeongho Jaraseom (90,000㎡) Eco Healing Tourism Land project (19 billion KRW).

They plan to complete a total waterfront trail of 89.3 km by creating an eco healing tourism garden, Yunsul Road (2 km), and the Mulbit Sky Road (610 m) connecting Jaraseom and Suam Village around Okjeongho, linking the currently developing Okjeongho tourism resources.

Along with this, through the Eco Nuri Campus project (4.5 billion KRW), accommodation facilities (7,815㎡) and private investment land (18,793㎡) will be leased in the first half of next year to establish a stay-type tourism base, and Okjeongho will be dramatically transformed through large-scale private investment attraction such as cable cars and zip lines.

The 2nd phase of the Seomjingang Eco Museum project (27 billion KRW), scheduled to be promoted by next year, will also speed up the construction of deck roads around Bungeo Island, maintenance of Yosan Park, creation of Unamgyo Theme Plaza, and establishment of Okjeongho camping grounds.

Additionally, the first phase of the ecological trail project linking the beautiful ecological resources of Okjeongho, the Okjeongho Water Culture Trail project (5 billion KRW), will be completed by early next year, and the second phase, the Okjeongho National Ecological Trail project (7.5 billion KRW), newly selected by the Ministry of Environment last year, will actively promote the creation of unexplored trail sections.

To solve the shortage of food options for tourists, the county is promoting the Imsil Hanwoo Specialty Street project (6.1 billion KRW) in Unam-myeon and the construction of convenience facilities at Yosan Park in front of the suspension bridge (3 billion KRW).

In particular, for the long-awaited project of Imsil-gun, the Okjeongho Waterfront Road construction (62 billion KRW), an eco-friendly dam utilization plan is being established to enable tourists visiting Okjeongho to conveniently tour the entire waterfront.

Imsil cheese, which began with a special connection to the late Father Ji Jeong-hwan, was born in 1967 through Father Ji’s love and dedication and has become the history of cheese in South Korea today.

The county leads the cheese industry based on Imsil N Cheese and is recognized as a successful model of the 6th industrialization. In December 2023, it signed a business agreement with the National Institute of Animal Science and plans to produce high-quality Imsil N Cheese with enhanced taste and flavor through the introduction of Jersey cattle.

Also, designated as an agro-life industry district linked to the Jeonbuk Special Act special cases, the county plans to enhance the status and competitiveness of Imsil N Cheese by applying advanced technology to the dairy and dairy processing industries.

▲ Osu, the hometown of opinions, to be developed as a sanctuary for 15 million companion animal owners

Based on the Osu opinion folklore, which is even included in elementary school textbooks, Osu will be nurtured as a sanctuary for 15 million companion animal owners.

Last December, the Osu District Urban Regeneration Activation Project (21.7 billion KRW), specializing in the companion animal industry, was finally selected in a competition by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and preparations have been completed to make Osu a sanctuary for companion animal owners, including securing national budget for the World Famous Dog Theme Land project (18 billion KRW) from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Centered on the Osu Opinion Tourist Site, the county plans to complete the construction of a companion animal support center (8 billion KRW), maintenance of the Osu Opinion Tourist Site (5 billion KRW), and the creation of a national leisure camping site with companion animals (2 billion KRW) by next year.

Along with the creation of companion animal specialized tourism infrastructure, the county plans to hold various events such as agility competitions and international dog shows at the Osu Opinion Culture Festival to make Osu a nationwide mecca of the companion tourism industry.

Governor Sim Min said, “Congratulations on the successful launch of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province,” and added, “As Imsil-gun of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province starts anew, we will strive toward a bright future for new Imsil.”
