Campaign to 'Not Give or Receive Holiday Gifts'
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is making every effort to create a ‘clean public service culture’ ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the 17th, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that it will carry out the ‘No Giving or Receiving Holiday Gifts! Practice Campaign’ targeting all institutions until the 15th of next month.
The aim is to prevent incidents prohibited under the ‘Improper Solicitation and Graft Act,’ such as gifts to superiors or gifts between public officials and interested parties, and to raise employees’ awareness of integrity.
The main activities include ▲employees signing a pledge of practice ▲‘visiting integrity education’ ▲and promotional activities across all institutions.
In particular, during the vulnerable holiday period for corruption, unannounced public service discipline inspections will be conducted to check for violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act on-site. Additionally, heads of the respective institutions will be guided to ensure that affiliated public officials understand the regulations prohibiting the acceptance of money and valuables, so that a culture of integrity can be established.
Superintendent Lee Jeong-seon stated, “If any Gwangju education public official demands money or gifts related to their duties, we will conduct a thorough investigation and take strict measures,” adding, “We will continue to strive to foster a more transparent culture in Gwangju education.”
