Gong Young-min, Goheung County Governor, Holds Forum for Residents and Regional Development

Gong Young-min, the governor of Goheung County, Jeollanam-do, began a communication campaign with residents through discussion meetings for regional development, starting on the 17th in Dongil-myeon, following his visit to major project sites in the area on the 2nd.

The 'Discussion Meetings for Regional Development with Residents,' held directly in 16 towns and townships until the 29th, are being held for the second time following last year. This format, which moves away from primarily small-scale local development project proposals, received great positive feedback from residents last year.

The schedule for the discussion meetings is as follows: starting on the 17th in Dongil-myeon and Bongnae-myeon; ▲18th in Dodeok-myeon and Pungyang-myeon; ▲19th in Geumsan-myeon and Doyang-eup; ▲22nd in Podu-myeon and Dohwa-myeon; ▲24th in Yeongnam-myeon and Jeomam-myeon; ▲25th in Namyang-myeon and Gwaryeok-myeon; ▲26th in Daeseo-myeon and Donggang-myeon; and ▲29th in Duwon-myeon and Goheung-eup.

This year’s discussion meetings are conducted in a format where the governor and residents freely discuss various topics aimed at 'establishing the foundation for a population of 100,000 in Goheung in 10 years' to promote regional development.

Additionally, residents familiar with local conditions participated in selecting discussion topics to achieve the county’s vision. Each town and township proposed two topics, totaling 32 discussion subjects, with the governor directly presiding over the discussions to create an open forum for exchanging ideas for regional development.

Before the meetings, a promotional video about county administration and opinions derived from the 2023 strategic discussion meetings with residents for regional development, as well as the status of major project implementations, were shared.

Furthermore, to ensure that projects desired by residents are fully addressed, residents were invited to submit project proposals in advance, and the governor responded directly on the day of the discussion meetings, ensuring no neglect in resolving residents’ daily inconveniences.

Governor Gong Young-min stated, “Following last year, this year’s discussion meetings are held in a tour format across towns and townships, with township heads presenting on 'establishing the foundation for a population of 100,000 in Goheung' through presentations, and adopting a free discussion format without designated discussants. By communicating more freely without being bound by formalities, this will play a significant role in Goheung’s transformative development. I will do my best to make this a time that reflects the residents’ intentions, believing that each idea from the residents can change the entire Goheung.”

The county plans to carefully review the regional development strategies proposed by residents during these discussion meetings and actively incorporate them into county administration. It will also continue to expand various channels to communicate with residents.
