Gimje City Operates 'Crop Residue Crushing Support Team'... Applications Open Until Next Month 7th

Operation of the 'Visiting Village Tour Support Team'

Jeonbuk Gimje City (Mayor Jeong Seong-ju) is launching the "Visiting Village Tour Agricultural Byproduct Safe Disposal Support Project" to minimize fine dust and wildfire occurrences ahead of the full-scale farming season.

According to the City Agricultural Technology Center on the 17th, this project aims to minimize fine dust and wildfire occurrences by eradicating the burning of rice field ridges and agricultural byproducts in rural areas.

The priority for selecting support targets is forest-adjacent areas (within 100 meters), vulnerable groups such as elderly farmers, and then farmland outside general areas. The village tour agricultural byproduct shredding support team is planned to operate from March.

Applications for shredding support are open from the 17th until the 7th of next month and can be submitted at the administrative welfare centers of the applicant’s town, township, or neighborhood. The crops eligible for shredding include fruit trees (apples, pears, grapes, etc.) excluding rice and barley, chili pepper stalks, vegetables (fruit vegetables, leafy vegetables, etc.), field crops (sesame, perilla, etc.), and agricultural byproducts (crops requiring shredding such as eggplant, stems, etc.).

For the efficient operation of the free shredding support team and prevention of safety accidents, farmers should dry the byproducts and gather them in locations convenient for vehicle access and equipment operation. Foreign substances such as string and vinyl must be removed from the agricultural byproducts.

Mayor Jeong Seong-ju of Gimje City stated, "This project will help improve soil environment, minimize pest and disease occurrences, and reduce labor for vulnerable groups," adding, "Through various promotions, we will prevent illegal burning of farmland and minimize fine dust generation to create a clean rural environment."
