Sergeant Son Hae-dal, Who Rescued 7 People from Capsized Fishing Boat, Named 'Top Hero of the Coast Guard'

S-Oil Holds Awards Ceremony, Presents 90 Million KRW to 8 Coast Guard Members

On the 17th, S-Oil held the '2023 Heroic Maritime Police Awards Ceremony' at Naru Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, awarding plaques and a total prize money of 90 million KRW to eight maritime police officers, including Corporal Son Haedal from Jeju Aviation University.

Corporal Son, selected as the 'Top Heroic Maritime Police Officer,' was recognized for his merit after being deployed to the site of a fishing boat capsizing accident in Jeju last October, where he rescued seven people using an aerial hoist. He was chosen as the grand prize winner.

S-Oil awarded Corporal Son a plaque and prize money of 20 million KRW.

Additionally, seven 'Heroic Maritime Police Officers,' including Sergeant Choi Hugeun from Pohang Maritime Police Station, each received a plaque and prize money of 10 million KRW.

Since 2013, S-Oil has signed the 'Maritime Police Hero Keeper' agreement with the Korea Coast Guard and the Social Welfare Council to encourage and boost the morale of maritime police officers who dedicate themselves on the front lines in rescuing distressed vessels, preventing marine pollution, and cracking down on illegal fishing vessels.

Since then, S-Oil has continued its sponsorship activities, including providing scholarships for children of fallen maritime police officers, medical support for injured officers, rest camps for maritime police couples, and the Heroic Maritime Police Awards.

Anwar Al-Hejazi, CEO of S-Oil, stated, "Maritime police officers who risk their lives to rescue others in difficult maritime conditions are true heroes," adding, "We will continue to show unwavering interest and support for the maritime police."
