'Saeroun Mirae' Launches... Lee Nak-yeon to Serve as Talent Committee Chair
"Breaking Old Left-Right Dividing Rules... Seeking Wisdom"
Lee Jun-seok and New Party Forces Attend... Consensus on 'Breaking Two-Party System'

The new party 'Saeroun Mirae' promoted by former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon has officially launched. Former leader Lee expressed his vision to break the oligarchic politics of the two major parties and realize 'de-authoritarianized democratic politics' through the implementation of a multiparty system.

Saeroun Mirae held its founding initiators' meeting on the afternoon of the 16th at the Seoul Women's Plaza in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by former leader Lee Nak-yeon, who took the lead in the new party, Lee Jun-seok, Chair of the Reform New Party Policy Committee, Kim Jong-min and Cho Eung-cheon, co-leaders of the Future Coalition, Yang Hyang-ja, leader of Hope of Korea, Geum Tae-seop, leader of New Choice, and other third-zone new party forces. In addition, approximately 2,500 people attended the event according to the party's own estimate.

In the founding statement, Saeroun Mirae declared that it would "uphold inclusive centrist reformism centered on national interest and pragmatism" and "open its doors wide to capable new political forces that can implement constructive alternatives and policies." It particularly emphasized, "We will transcend the old dichotomy dividing left and right, cooperate broadly, and seek wisdom."

The core agenda of the party's platform includes ▲building an advanced welfare state ▲multi-layered dolphin diplomacy ▲a vibrant economy integrating growth and distribution ▲strengthening the stature of K-culture as a cultural powerhouse ▲customized stepping-stone welfare ▲addressing low birthrate and aging population ▲responding to the climate crisis.

Regarding 'electoral system reform,' it stated, "The winner-takes-all single-member district system should be reformed into a multi-member district system, and the proportion of proportional representation relative to district seats should be expanded," adding, "We will adopt (or maintain) a mixed-member proportional representation system to establish a political order faithful to the people's will."

The third-zone new party forces attending the event agreed on the necessity of breaking the entrenched two-party politics proposed by Saeroun Mirae.

Lee Jun-seok, Chair of the Reform New Party Policy Committee, said, "Our people have already made their judgment on whether President Yoon Seok-youl or leader Lee Jae-myung is worse," bluntly stating, "Both are bad." He emphasized, "We must pause our anger toward those who brought us to this position and understand the hearts of the people who are earnestly waiting for us, and present a future."

Cho Eung-cheon, co-leader of the Future Coalition Founding Committee, directly criticized, "The leaders of the two parties, who occupy about 98% of the National Assembly, did not come to this place," adding, "Perhaps they are out of touch with public sentiment." He also said, "The two-party forces are those who spend four years blaming others and taking politics for granted by saying the opposing party is incompetent. Meeting comrades like this gives me a hundredfold courage."

Yang Hyang-ja, leader of Hope of Korea, added, "We do not need parties that fail to fulfill their duties to the people and exist only for their own vested interests," and said, "In the April general election, beyond breaking the two-party structure, we must break with the past and cross into the future hand in hand."

Meanwhile, Saeroun Mirae launched a preparatory committee for the party's founding with the consent of about 30,000 initiators on the same day. Former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Lee Seok-hyun, former Gyeonggi Province Assembly member Shin Jeong-hyun, and lawyer Seo Hyo-young were elected as co-chairs of the founding committee. Former leader Lee Nak-yeon will serve as the head of the talent committee. Saeroun Mirae plans to hold founding conventions for city and provincial parties nationwide and aims to hold the central party founding convention in early next month.
