Namhae-gun Increases Honorary Veteran Allowance and Veterans Honorary Allowance by 50,000 to 70,000 Won

Namhye-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will provide the Combat Honor Allowance and Veterans Honor Allowance, which are paid according to the <Namhye-gun Act on the Treatment and Support of National Veterans> and the <Namhye-gun Ordinance on Support for War Veterans and Others>, at increased amounts starting from January.

The Combat Honor Allowance and Veterans Honor Allowance are allowances paid to strengthen the treatment of national veterans and their families who sacrificed for the country. As of January, 1,213 people in the county are expected to receive support.


In December, Namhye-gun revised the related ordinance to establish the basis for increased support and secured a budget of 1.918 billion KRW this year (24.6% provincial subsidy, 75.4% county funds).

Accordingly, Korean War veterans and Vietnam War veterans aged 80 or older will receive 270,000 KRW, increased by 50,000 KRW from the previous 220,000 KRW, and Vietnam War veterans under 80 will receive 240,000 KRW, increased by 70,000 KRW from the previous 170,000 KRW.


In addition, widows of deceased veterans, families of those awarded for distinguished military service, wounded veterans, families of wounded veterans, families of soldiers who died in the line of duty, families of soldiers injured in the line of duty, special mission veterans, and May 18 Democratic Movement veterans will receive 70,000 KRW, increased by 20,000 KRW.


Furthermore, for the first time this year, the Veterans Honor Allowance for National Meritorious Persons has been newly established, with 70,000 KRW to be paid, benefiting about 40 additional people.


County Governor Jang Chung-nam said, “The increase in the Combat Honor Allowance and Veterans Honor Allowance will serve as an opportunity to improve the treatment and strengthen the respect for national veterans and their families who sacrificed for the country,” adding, “We will continue to do our best in promoting veterans’ honor and treating national veterans with respect.”
