Seoul City Launches 'Climate Companion Card' on 27th
Two Types Released Based on Ddareungi Usage
Seoul City announced on the 16th that it will begin full-scale sales ahead of the launch of the nation’s first unlimited public transportation pass, the ‘Climate Companion Card,’ scheduled for the 27th. Starting from the 23rd, four days before the official launch, mobile card downloads and physical card sales will commence, along with advance notifications and citizen participation events.
The Climate Companion Card is a new transportation policy introduced by Seoul City, offering citizens an unlimited integrated transportation pass that greatly enhances user convenience. As the card is about to be officially introduced to the public, the city is currently finalizing system development and sales preparations in cooperation with transportation operators. Accordingly, advance notifications will begin in the third week of January, with full-scale sales starting on the 23rd.
Initially, the card is available in two types to broaden choices based on whether users utilize Ddareungi (Seoul’s public bike-sharing service), allowing them to purchase the pass that best suits their needs. Users can choose between the ▲62,000 KRW option and the ▲65,000 KRW option. Purchasing methods are divided into ‘mobile card’ and ‘physical card.’ Both will be available for download and sale starting on the 23rd, with usage beginning from the first train on the 27th. Notably, purchasing the mobile or physical card in advance after the 23rd allows for more convenient use.
The mobile card is targeted at Android phone users, who can download the ‘Mobile T-money’ app and complete membership registration. On the main screen, users select the Climate Companion Card, register their bank account once, and then recharge via bank transfer before use. Physical cards can be purchased starting on the 23rd for 3,000 KRW in cash at the customer safety offices of stations on Line 1 from Seoul Station to Cheongnyangni Station, as well as at stations from Line 2 to Line 8 within Seoul. After purchase, users can recharge the card with cash at charging terminals inside the stations.
For those who purchase the 65,000 KRW option that includes Ddareungi usage, regardless of their phone model, they can enter the 16-digit Climate Companion Card number into the ‘T-money GO’ app and enjoy unlimited use of the 1-hour pass for 30 days. However, physical card users must pre-register as Climate Companion Card members by accessing the QR code located at the upper left on the back of the card.
In response to the growing anticipation for the Climate Companion Card, street events such as the ‘Gidongka (Climate Companion Card) Scholarship Quiz’ will be held in front of major subway stations and university areas in Seoul, providing opportunities for citizen participation.
Yoon Jong-jang, Director of the Seoul City Urban Transportation Office, stated, “Starting card sales on the 23rd, we are finally introducing the ‘Climate Companion Card,’ the nation’s first unlimited public transportation pass, to our citizens.” He added, “Since this is a completely unprecedented new service in the history of national public transportation policies, we will focus all efforts on continuous improvements and enhancements immediately after launch to increase convenience, and furthermore, to establish transportation innovation in citizens’ daily lives following the metropolitan area integrated transfer system.”
