Received the highest grade 'A Grade' in the evaluation led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety... Excelling in disaster-vulnerable facility inspection management, rainy season preventive facility maintenance, and disaster response and recovery sectors
Park Jun-hee, head of Gwanak District Office, participated in a field response drill for flood and wind disaster preparedness with residents in June last year.
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) achieved the highest grade, 'A grade,' in the '2023 Natural Disaster Safety Diagnosis Evaluation.'
The 'Natural Disaster Safety Diagnosis' is conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety targeting 228 local governments nationwide. It comprehensively verifies disaster prevention capabilities and evaluates the safety level of local governments through 53 diagnostic indicators in three areas: ▲disaster risk factors ▲disaster prevention measures implementation ▲facility inspection and maintenance.
Local governments are evaluated and classified into five grades from A to E, with only the top 34 local governments receiving an A grade.
This is the third time the district has achieved an 'A grade.' Except for 2022, when it was declared a special disaster area, the district has always achieved an A grade. This has nationally recognized that the district maintains the highest level of safety against natural disasters.
In this evaluation, the district scored high in areas such as ▲'inspection and management of disaster-vulnerable facilities' including steep slopes and landslide-prone areas ▲'maintenance of preventive facilities for the rainy season' such as drainage pump stations, sewage pipelines, and surface drainage facilities ▲'disaster response and recovery' including typhoon and earthquake response drills.
In particular, the district was recognized for its diligent efforts to prevent the recurrence of flood damage caused by abnormal weather, such as identifying 3,589 households in underground floors within flood-prone areas, installing water barriers in underground parking lots of apartment complexes, and increasing the subscription rate of typhoon and flood insurance following the declaration of a special disaster area due to heavy rain in 2022.
Additionally, with this 'A grade in natural disaster safety,' the district will be able to secure an additional 2% of the damage recovery funds supported by the national treasury when a special disaster area is declared due to natural disasters in the future.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “It is very meaningful that the result of various proactive efforts to prioritize residents' safety and prevent disasters has manifested as the achievement of the 'highest grade.' We will continue to do our best to create a 'safe living environment in Gwanak' where all residents can live with peace of mind.”
Meanwhile, the district has established an efficient and systematic disaster response system centered on the 'Gwanak-gu Disaster Safety Situation Room,' which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As a result, the district was honored with the title of 'Excellent Institution' in the recent '2023 Seoul City Integrated Support Headquarters Operation Evaluation' and received an 'Excellent Grade' in the '2023 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training Evaluation.'
