Seoul Auction is focusing on colored Oriental paintings for its first auction of the new year. Amid ongoing efforts in the art market to discover "K-Art" artists following monochrome paintings, the auction highlights Oriental painters who combine exotic motifs with Korean folk materials. A total of 143 works by colored Oriental painters Park Saeng-gwang (1904?1985) and Park Rae-hyun (1920?1976), valued at approximately 6.2 billion KRW, will be auctioned.

Seoul Auction announced that it will conduct a "live auction" of works by the two artists Park Saeng-gwang and Park Rae-hyun on the 23rd. This auction will be held without on-site attendees. Bidders can participate by submitting bids in writing, by phone, or online while watching the live broadcast on the Seoul Auction website.

Park Saeng-gwang’s works include 81 pieces utilizing deep obangsaek colors, such as the late works from the "Mudang" series inspired by the shaman Kim Geum-hwa and her rituals, as well as "Baegundae Insu Peak at Sunset," "Flower Palanquin," and "Tohamsan."

Park Rae-hyun’s works include the 1956 piece "Early Morning" (500 million to 650 million KRW), which won the Presidential Award at the Korea Fine Arts Association Exhibition, the 1940s work "Danjang," and 62 major works from various periods showcasing his overall artistic career, including abstract paintings, prints, and tapestries from the 1960s onward, all seeking new owners.

The exhibited works can be viewed free of charge at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center until the auction day on the 23rd.
