Data Delivered to the Presidential Office at the President-led 'Minsheng Discussion Forum'

On the 15th, Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, attended the 3rd "Public Livelihood Discussion" hosted by President Yoon Seok-yeol at Sungkyunkwan University Natural Science Campus in Cheoncheon-dong, Suwon, and requested Park Chun-seop, the Chief Economic Secretary of the Presidential Office, to expedite the establishment of transportation infrastructure to strengthen the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry, the city announced that day.

Through the materials delivered that day, Mayor Lee explained, "To build Yongin's semiconductor ecosystem, including the 'Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' in Idong and Namsa-eup with an investment of 360 trillion won and the 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster' in Wonsam-myeon with an investment of 122 trillion won, national support is necessary for expanding transportation infrastructure and for connected industrial complexes that can accommodate related materials, parts, and equipment companies."

The mayor included three agenda items in the materials: ▲Request to include the extension of the Gyeonggang Line as a new project in the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan ▲Prompt promotion of the semiconductor highway private investment project ▲Transfer of authority for reviewing local industrial complex plans.

Mayor Lee emphasized the necessity of including the Gyeonggang Line extension in the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan, stating, "The extension of the Gyeonggang Line is an essential route to complement the metropolitan area wide express railroad, which is a national policy project."

He also stressed that the semiconductor highway connecting Yanggam-myeon in Hwaseong City, Namsa and Idong-eup in Yongin City, and Iljuk-myeon in Anseong City must be promptly promoted, as it not only supports balanced regional development but also organically connects semiconductor hub cities.

The mayor pointed out difficulties in the rapid establishment of materials, parts, and equipment industrial complexes because the authority to review industrial complex plans lies with Gyeonggi Province, a metropolitan local government, and argued, "The authority to review local industrial complex plans in Gyeonggi Province should be transferred to the city."

Meanwhile, the livelihood discussion held that day under the theme "Semiconductor Industry Enriching Livelihoods" was attended by presidential office officials including Secretary Lee Gwan-seop, Policy Chief Seong Tae-yoon, and Chief Economic Secretary Park Chun-seop, as well as Minister Ahn Deok-geun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin, and Mayor Kim Kyung-hee of Icheon. Additionally, 110 participants including representatives from companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, research institutions, semiconductor-related department students, and local residents attended.
