'Gold-Price Strawberry' Disappears Without a Trace Before Shipment... Farmers' Anxious Hearts

Strawberries Harvested from 8 Farms Disappear Just Before Shipment

Due to the impact of abnormal high temperatures, strawberries have become 'golden-priced,' and recently, about 2 tons of strawberries disappeared just before shipment in Gimhae, Gyeongnam. The affected farmers reported the incident to the police, but even after about two weeks, the strawberries have not been found.

On the 15th, Gimhae City and others announced that 1,900 kg of strawberries (market value 25 million KRW) harvested from 11 greenhouses belonging to 8 farms in Sisan-ri, Hallim-myeon, disappeared without a trace. These strawberries were agricultural products harvested by farmers in the greenhouses and stacked while waiting to be shipped to the auction market.

The affected farmers confirmed the strawberry theft on the 2nd and reported it to the city and police. However, even after about two weeks, the missing strawberries have still not been found. The affected farmers lamented, "Winter strawberries require a lot of heating oil, electricity bills, and labor costs in the greenhouses, and winter strawberries also have a good market price, so the damage is enormous." Recently, winter strawberries are priced at around 20,000 KRW per kilogram for premium quality.

The police are conducting investigations by checking CCTV footage around the access roads since there are no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed inside the greenhouses. The police and the city have strengthened nighttime patrols in the area and increased publicity to prevent theft.
