Utilized for Research, Study, Exhibition, and Education Related to Educational History
The Busan Education History Museum will begin collecting educational materials to systematically record and preserve the history of education in Busan.
The Busan Education History Museum, a branch of the Busan Metropolitan Central Library (Director Kim Jeong-tae), collects educational materials related to Busan education that hold high historical and cultural value, held by individuals and schools, throughout the year.
This collection effort aims to systematically organize and preserve disappearing and forgotten records related to Busan education, utilizing them as cultural assets for students and citizens.
The Busan Education History Museum plans to collect various materials of different eras and forms related to the history of education in Busan.
The collected materials include ▲educational materials related to students, teachers, and schools during the opening of the port period, modernization, Japanese colonial era, and the Korean War ▲educational materials related to Busan’s first special education and early childhood education ▲materials related to industrial schools and women's education ▲materials on independence movements, democratization movements, and student movements centered around schools ▲and materials related to Hangul education in Busan.
They collect ▲paper materials such as official documents, work notebooks, textbooks, newspapers, magazines, diaries that are related to or partially include Busan education ▲audiovisual materials such as photos, videos, audio recordings, and albums of incidents, accidents, people, lost buildings, and major events ▲and artifacts such as clothing, stationery, teaching aids, and badges.
Anyone (or any institution) wishing to donate can do so. The received artifacts will undergo review twice a year by the Artifact Evaluation Committee and will be finalized as donations, with the donor’s name recorded and registered as part of the Busan Education History Museum’s collection.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Busan Education History Museum.
Kim Jeong-tae, Director of the Central Library, said, “The materials donated will greatly help to widely promote the value of Busan education and foster empathy across generations,” and added, “We ask for the interest and participation of many people in the collection of educational materials.”
Scheduled to open in March at the former Gamjeong Elementary School site in Saha-gu, the Busan Education History Museum will professionally manage and preserve the collected materials and plans to utilize them in various ways such as research, investigation, exhibitions, and education related to the history of education in Busan.
