'Mulbit Yeonhwa'... Changgyeonggung Palace Becomes More Beautiful at Night

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Division announced on the 15th that it will launch 'Mulbit Yeonhwa,' a program to enjoy the night scenery of Changgyeonggung Palace this year. Changgyeonggung Palace was built by King Seongjong in 1483 on the site of Sugang Palace to house Queen Jeonghwi, the consort of King Sejo, Queen Ansun, the consort of King Yejong, and Queen Sohye, the consort of King Deokjong. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasions of Korea (Imjin War) and rebuilt along with Changdeokgung Palace. Until Gyeongbokgung Palace was reconstructed during the reign of Emperor Gojong, it served as a major stage in the history of the Joseon Dynasty.

'Mulbit Yeonhwa,' held during the Spring Palace Culture Festival, is a family-oriented experiential event that harmonizes the natural scenery of Changgyeonggung Palace with cutting-edge video technology to create media art that communicates with traditional culture. 'Mulbit' means the view of Chundangji Pond at Changgyeonggung where water and light blend, and 'Yeonhwa,' meaning the spring scenery, symbolizes the most beautiful moment in life. It expresses the hope that visitors will have joyful memories.

The Palace and Royal Tombs Division stated, "This is the fourth nighttime program among the four major palaces following Changdeokgung's 'Moonlight Tour,' Gyeongbokgung's 'Starlight Night Tour,' and Deoksugung's 'Night at Seokjojeon,'" adding, "Detailed information will be disclosed later."

In addition, the Palace and Royal Tombs Division plans to expand the customized interpretation program, which was introduced last year for visually impaired visitors to the four major palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, and Changgyeonggung), to Jongmyo Shrine. The number of sessions at the four major palaces will also be significantly increased from 60 times last year.
