Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) will conduct a focused inspection on subcontract payment and worker wage payment status at port construction sites from the 15th to the 26th ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The joint inspection team, composed of the Finance and Accounting Department, Audit Office, and Business Departments, will inspect 36 ongoing construction sites, including the Busan New Port South Container Terminal Phase 2-6 project site.
They will verify the status of subcontract payment and timely payment of worker wages, and encourage the payment of any delayed subcontract payments and wages before the holiday for minor issues. If any violations are found, measures will be taken according to relevant laws and regulations.
BPA complies with the labor cost segregation management system and implements continuous monitoring using the electronic payment system for construction payments called the Win-Win Payment System and the Subcontract Keeper.
Additionally, BPA manages to prevent unfair transactions related to subcontract contracts through annual on-site meetings.
The labor cost segregation management system is a system where the ordering agency, contract counterpart, and subcontractor manage labor costs separately from other compensation.
BPA President Kang Jun-seok stated, “We will do our best to ensure that small construction companies and on-site workers do not face economic difficulties ahead of the nation’s major holiday, Lunar New Year.”
