BlackRock Appoints Susan Chan as Head of Asia Pacific Region

BlackRock, the world's largest asset management company, announced on the 15th that it has appointed Susan Chan as Head of Asia Pacific, and Andrew Landman and Hiroyuki Shimizu as Deputy Heads of the Asia Pacific region.

Newly appointed Head Chan succeeds Rachel Lord, who moved to London as the Global Head of BlackRock Group International Business.

Head Chan is responsible for leading BlackRock's Asia Pacific business from Hong Kong. She oversees all services and businesses BlackRock offers to retail and institutional investors, including active, index, ETF, alternative investments, and financial technology, as well as client management, investment, and operational platforms.

Head Chan is a financial expert with over 30 years of experience in the financial services and asset management industry, having held various leadership roles in capital markets, trading, investment, and client business divisions. She has worked at BlackRock for more than 10 years, leading the ETF and index investment divisions and managing trading, liquidity, and securities lending teams. She also led BlackRock’s sustainable and transition investment groups and developed BlackRock’s local business in China.

Susan Chan, the newly appointed Head of BlackRock Asia Pacific, said, "I am pleased and honored to lead BlackRock’s Asia Pacific business, which is equipped with excellent talent, great ambitions, and excellence," adding, "We are focused on accelerating momentum in the Asia Pacific region to deliver the best investment outcomes for our clients."

She continued, "It is crucial to thoroughly understand clients’ needs and to capture new and differentiated investment opportunities across the platform," expressing, "I aim to lead the Asia Pacific region with clients’ success as the top priority."

Head Chan previously served as Deputy Head of BlackRock Asia Pacific, Head of BlackRock Greater China, and Head of BlackRock Asia Pacific Trading, Liquidity, and Lending divisions. She joined BlackRock in 2013 as Head of Capital Markets and Investment Products for iShares Asia Pacific. She led BlackRock’s ETF and Index Investment division until 2021. Currently, she serves on BlackRock’s Global Executive Committee, Global Markets Executive Committee, and BlackRock Asia Pacific Executive and Operating Committee.

BlackRock also appointed Andrew Landman, Head of BlackRock Australasia, and Hiroyuki Shimizu, Head of BlackRock Asia Pacific Institutional Business and Head of BlackRock North Asia (Korea, Japan), as Deputy Heads of the Asia Pacific region. Deputy Head Landman oversees the Australia and New Zealand market teams as well as Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific asset management businesses. Deputy Head Hiroyuki Shimizu is responsible for the Asia Pacific institutional business, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

BlackRock appointed James Raby, Head of Asia Pacific Asset Management, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Asia Pacific, and Hua Fan as Head of BlackRock China.
