Police Launch Investigation Targeting Hotel Officials
It has been reported that the police have launched an investigation into the case of a 5-year-old child who lost consciousness while playing in a hotel swimming pool and passed away about 1 year and 4 months later. The police are focusing on whether the hotel was negligent in safety management at the time of the accident.
On the 15th, 'MBC News' reported that the police began investigating hotel officials and others after being notified by the hospital of the child's death.
Separately, the bereaved family of the deceased child is reportedly preparing a lawsuit against the hotel. The family claims that the safety management of the hotel swimming pool was inadequate at the time of the accident.
The accident occurred last summer at an outdoor swimming pool of a hotel in Jeju. According to footage released by MBC, a child playing near the corner of the pool appeared to adjust their swimming goggles and then suddenly stopped moving.
A woman outside the pool, realizing something was wrong with the child, hurriedly pulled the child out of the water and laid them on a chair. A lifeguard arrived later and moved the child. The child was then transported to a hospital for treatment but did not regain consciousness for about 1 year and 4 months, eventually passing away on the 17th of last month.
The police are investigating hotel officials and others on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.
