The monument, measuring 3 meters in height and 1.5 meters in width, was created under the theme "Beautiful friendship of two facing cities, beyond 120 years toward the future," symbolizing the two cities looking at each other across time and space and promising a continuous future. Incheon and Honolulu established their sister city relationship on October 15, 2003.

On the same day, a commemorative marker unveiling ceremony was held at Pier 7 of Honolulu Harbor to mark the arrival point of the first Korean immigrant group in Hawaii.

The 1.3-meter-high marker records the historic event of the first Korean immigrant group departing from Jemulpo, Incheon on December 22, 1902, aboard the American merchant ship Gaelic, and arriving at Pier 7 of Honolulu Harbor on January 13, 1903, 121 years ago.

Mayor Yoo said, "We look forward to 200 years of shining together beyond the 20 years Incheon and Honolulu have shared," adding, "I hope this becomes a meaningful landmark for those visiting Hawaii."
