The representative festivals of Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, the ‘Ojingeo Festival’ and the ‘Snow Festival,’ have achieved the great honor of being selected as the ‘2024-25 Gyeongbuk Province Designated Excellent Festivals’ and the small but competitive ‘Miso (微笑) Festivals.’
On the 10th, Gyeongbuk Province selected 14 designated festivals (2 Best Festivals, 6 Excellent Festivals, 6 Promising Festivals) and 9 Miso (微笑) Festivals to represent Gyeongbuk for the two years from 2024 to 2025, following the review by the Gyeongbuk Regional Festival Deliberation Committee.
The ‘Ojingeo Festival,’ following its selection as a Promising Festival designated by Gyeongbuk Province in 2023, was selected as an Excellent Festival this year and will receive 55 million KRW annually in provincial funding for two years until 2025 to support content and program development, festival operation, and promotional marketing.
Also, the ‘Snow Festival,’ after being selected as a Miseak (微色) Festival last year, was chosen as a Miso (微笑) Festival this year, securing a support fund of 10 million KRW.
With this, the two festivals representing Ulleung-gun have been able to advance as more complete festivals representing Gyeongbuk Province.
Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “We expect that the results of this contest selection will inject vitality into the festival promotion,” and added, “We will do our best to make this year’s festival a catalyst for the development of Ulleung tourism with innovative and abundant programs.”
The Ulleungdo Snow Festival will be held for three days from February 1 to February 3 around the Nari Basin area. This year’s Snow Festival features a large snow sledding slope 190 meters long made of natural snow, snow rafting where visitors can enjoy the snowy scenery of Nari, exciting music performances, and a food market, among various programs. It aims to provide local residents and tourists visiting Ulleung-gun with a richer array of attractions along with the charm of Ulleungdo in winter.
