1:1 Learning and Cultural Experience Support
Kolon announced on the 12th that it held the closing ceremony for the 8th Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring program at 'Heyground' in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
The Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring is a support project by Kolon Group for children from multicultural families, helping multicultural and migrant-background youth overcome cultural differences and smoothly adapt to school life and Korean society. Migrant-background youth is a general term referring to youth who have migrated internationally or have an international migration background according to Article 18 of the Youth Welfare Support Act. It includes children from multicultural families, North Korean defector youth, youth who entered Korea mid-way, and children of foreign workers.
They were paired one-on-one with university (graduate) student mentors who grew up in similar environments to engage in learning and cultural experience activities. The program started in 2015 and this year marks its 8th session.
The mentors and mentees participating in the 8th session met twice a week from March to December last year to assist with school curriculum learning. Various cultural activities such as visits to domestic historical sites and exhibitions, university tours, and sports activities were also held once a month.

Nahid, a mentor from Afghanistan attending Sungkyunkwan University who participated in the closing ceremony, said, "I was happy to be a student mentor growing up in a similar environment, to challenge and walk together."
Kolon plans to continue the Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring program. By next month, the selection and matching of mentors and mentees for the 9th session will be completed, and mentoring activities will be carried out for 10 months starting from March.
A Kolon official said, "Kolon has been steadily carrying out support projects for multicultural migrant-background youth to adapt to Korean society over the past 8 years," adding, "We will continue to act as supporters for multicultural and migrant-background youth without change."
