Naver Privacy White Paper and Personal Information Protection Report Published

Naver announced on the 12th that it has published the 2023 Naver Privacy White Paper, which contains specialized research results on privacy, and the Naver Personal Information Protection Report summarizing Naver's personal information protection activities.

The 2023 Naver Privacy White Paper includes research results on the interpretation of automated decision-making regulations under the Personal Information Protection Act, desirable operation and improvement measures, and several issues surrounding the provision of personal information to third parties. Since 2015, Naver has been publishing an annual Privacy White Paper containing expert research results from academia and research fields on personal information protection and privacy.

Additionally, Naver plans to hold a seminar on the research topics covered in this white paper. Experts are expected to discuss the rights of data subjects to respond to automated decisions, a newly introduced system under the Personal Information Protection Act, and a comparative analysis of similar systems to the third-party provision regulations of personal information, which privacy practitioners face difficulties interpreting and applying in the field.

Through the 2023 Naver Personal Information Protection Report, Naver disclosed major personal information and privacy protection activities carried out last year. The report reveals Naver's activities such as the progress of personal information impact assessments following the launch of generative artificial intelligence (AI), the processing of personal information of children and adolescents to enhance privacy transparency, and the current status of mobile application privacy. Since 2012, Naver has annually disclosed major domestic personal information issues and the company's efforts and activities in response through the Personal Information Protection Report.

Jin-gyu Lee, Naver's Chief Privacy Officer, said, "With the comprehensive revision of the Personal Information Protection Act, the rights and systems newly introduced have strengthened corporate obligations for personal information protection. We plan to reflect the research results discussed in the white paper on personal information and privacy fields into our services." He added, "We will also continue activities to actively share Naver's personal information protection know-how and information accumulated through work processes with partner companies."

The 2023 Naver Privacy White Paper and the 2023 Naver Personal Information Protection Report are available through the Naver Privacy Center.
